Sleep deprivation can lead to a lot of problems; from low productivity to fatigue. However, it is a problem that is experienced by a lot of people. Sleeping troubles are caused as a result of many reasons including poor diet and stress. Here are five simple habits that you can practice to help you sleep better.

Keep Your Bed for Relaxing

Your bed is where you come to rest and relax after the end of a long day. If you carry your laptop with you to bed to finish your work, or keep checking your emails on phone while you are on bed, it will not help you relax. Instead, you are bringing a part of your work to your personal life. Avoid using your laptop, phone or even watching late-night TV while you are on bed. Instead, use your bed for resting and keep it a work free zone.

Invest in Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is your safe haven and therefore it is completely fine to invest in it. This does not mean to look out for items that are only comfortable. But also add a couple of products that can help you build a good ambience. If you have a preferred theme or style, then go for it and give your bedroom a small makeover. Buy that headboard you like or purchase a good set of bedding. The overall ambience of the bedroom will be a big factor that decides your mood. So keep it clean, organised and personalised for you.

Never Over-eat

It is not healthy to go to sleep hungry. But it is also not healthy to over eat before sleeping. Avoid eating big meals within three hours of bedtime. It is also necessary to avoid eating anything right before you go to sleep, unless it is a light snack. And when it comes to snacking, try your best to keep it a healthy snack like an apple, or a few crackers instead of something overly sugary and sweet. Alcohol and caffeine before bedtime is also a big no.

Establish a Night Ritual

A health night ritual or a sleep ritual is one of the healthy sleep solutions that can help to relax your mood, make you forget your worries, help you to relax and de-stress before sleeping. This can include any activity that calms you. Some of the practices you can try are meditating, listening to calming music, burning some essential oil, lighting a scented candle or reading a good book. Not all of these activities will work for you, so find one or two that you prefer.

Exercise

While a morning exercise is always recommended for a healthy lifestyle, you can also try it at night. Night-time exercises do not have to be rigorous workout sessions. Instead, you can practice a couple of stretching exercises that will help your muscles relax or some calming yoga poses that will both relax your body as well as your mind.

You will never know how useful these habits might be until you try them. So, give it a try today and see how much they can improve your sleeping habits.
